Why have this?

This uses 1/8th the space of the original Star Control artwork.

We can have hundreds of angles now if we wanted.

Quicker loading, less files, less RAM.

Lasers, explosions, colored suns, etc. can now light up the ships in new and interesting ways.

May have issues with colors, due to 256 color GIF format restraints. Won't necessarily look like this in the game, some ships are unfinished, or have over-done lighting to show off the effect.
